Blackout Blinds
There are many different reasons for wishing to install blackout blinds and as such they are becoming increasingly more popular. Whereas once they were rather plain looking blinds, you can now find them in a variety of different styles, patterns and colors. Not only are there blackout roller blinds but there are also blackout Roman blinds and blackout skylight blinds. You can even buy blackout wood or faux wood blinds these days, and while they are not backed with the traditional blackout material they are made in such a way that the slats close completely, almost totally eliminating any light from entering the room.
With an increasing number of people setting up home theaters in their homes the need for blackout blinds has increased, especially where a projector and projector screen are used instead of a regular television. Because of the way the image is projected onto the screen the viewing room needs to be almost completely darkened. Any light entering into the room causes the image to fade and become less sharp.
Black out blinds are also great to use in children's rooms and nurseries. Many children have a difficult time sleeping during the day and this is often due to the amount of light that enters the room, even when the curtains are closed. Room darkening blinds for children now come in a delightful array of designs with many brightly patterned blinds specifically designed for children's bedrooms. They are also very useful if you have a child who wakes as soon as the sun rises in the sky, as the blinds will shut out the early morning light and help your child to sleep longer.
If anyone in your home works the night shift and sleeps during the day they will be grateful to have this type of blind installed. It is difficult enough for some people to adjust to sleeping during the day and this can be even harder if light seeps into the room through closed curtains or shades.
Blackout skylight blinds are also very useful. Skylights are great for allowing extra light into a room and they are beautiful to look up through at night; however there are times when they allow too much light and heat into a room, especially during the middle of a hot summer day. Electrically operated blackout skylight blinds, such as the Velux DMC-1025-4646, while a little pricey, are very easy to operate. If an electrically operated blind is too expensive you may instead be interested in a manually operated blind made by the same company, the Velux DKC-1025-4646 skylight blind.
One added advantage to using blackout blinds is that they also offer UV protection. This makes them ideal for situations where you want to prevent items becoming damaged by too much sunlight shining directly on them. Not only do they keep out the sun’s harmful rays, but they also help conserve energy. This means that during summer you will find that your electricity costs are lowered as the blinds will help keep the heat out of your room and thus your air-conditioning unit will perform more efficiently. In winter the blinds will keep the heat in the room, thus conserving on your heating costs.
As you can see there are many great reasons for installing blackout blinds and with prices only marginally higher than for regular blinds it is often well worth the little extra cost. They will not only help you to sleep more soundly but they will also cut back considerably on your utility costs, and enhance your viewing pleasure when installed in your home theater.
