Favorite Features of Dripless Candles
In an effort to improve the quality of candles, many manufacturers are beginning to offer a dripless version of their most popular candles. Almost by magic, dripless candles burn their wax in perfect balance with the speed of the wick, creating a candle that does not drip or show wax as it burns.
Candle manufacturers use a combination of two techniques to make their candles so they don’t drip. The first technique is to use two different types of waxes. For example, if they are making 18 inch taper candles, they will make the bulk of the candle with regular wax that burns at a temperature of 130-140 degrees. Then they add a few layers of outer wax that is rated to burn at a temperature of over 160 degrees. As the dripless taper candle burns, the outer layer of wax forms a cup of sorts for the wax to sit in until it is completely melted. This is used in combination with a method of matching the perfect wick to each type of candle. Testing and tweaking is used to find the perfect thickness of wick for each type of wax used.
Dripless Candles Vs. Traditional Taper Candles
Dripless candles have obvious advantages over traditional taper and pillar candles. Although they cost a little more, the safety characteristics of dripless candles make them worth the extra cost several times over, particularly if the candles are going to be used in a candle chandelier. However, even if the candles are on the table safely out of harms way, candles without drips simply look better as they burn away. Rather than having globs of melted wax at the base of your centerpiece, you could have a pristine representation of your creation until the last drop of wax melts away. Finally, dripless candles tend to burn longer than traditional candles making them a great value for the price paid.
